THE NEW GLASSES

Happy Sunday Everyone! Tragedy struck on Thursday, Yep! I broke my glasses ... now don't panic, I spent most of the day in contacts and I did manage to fix them ... kind of. I bought some good old super glue and forced them back together. I've had my glasses for a few years now and I absolutely love them, they're from the Gok Wan range at Specsavers. It took a lot for me to get these because at the time I was wearing some pretty mundane glasses and compared to my old ones these are completely out there! But the inner diva in me needed this pair. There was a slight worry because the frame is quite round and I was nervous that it was going to emphasise the roundness of my face shape. However the moment I put them on ... they just felt right you know?

When my glasses broke I began to panic because I don't have a back up pair, in fact I haven't even thought about picking up a pair as a back up until now! With that in mind I was straight onto the Specsavers website to see what they had to offer ... and I was not dissapointed! The price range of the frames are fantastic they have budget frames from as low as £25 but they also offer the higher end brand if you wanted to splash a little more! I've had a look through all the black frames they offer for men and I was really surprised at the variety they have online! I know I want quite a prominent frame and so the larger frames definitely stuck out for me! Here's what I found!

DINO - I consider these frames to be an absolute bargain, I am yet to see any of these frames in the flesh so I may completely change my mind but from the photos they all look pretty good! You can get a pair of Dinos for just £45! They are a black rectangular frame and I absolutely love them!

FLEXI 80 - These frames come at a higher price of £99 but oh my how beautiful are they! I'm used to having a thicker frame so I'm not sure how these would look on me but I absolutely love the style. The front of the frames have a shiny black finish with a keyhole bridge. The sides are made from a flexible metal which is supposed to boost the comfort factor!

BO 0088 - These are the first higher/designer brand frames I came across on the site from Boss Orange, they are £125 so definitely something to look at if you are willing to spend a little extra. The frame on this is super thick which really draws me in! I think these would be amazing to wear and can't wait to see what they look like on! The frame has a wood like grained texture which isn't something I've seen much of!

KL 05 - The first of two frames that I spotted from the Karl Lagerfeld section on the website, these super quirky frames are £125. I've looked at a few tortoise shell frames and these are one of my favourites! Although they are super out there! I absolutely love the angular shape of the frame ... not too sure on how I feel on the silver sides though. I think they would look amazing if they were tortoise shell all over!

EOT BEHOLDER - These chunky frames are from a brand called Cheap Monday which I haven't really heard of before but I love the range they have! At £99 you can get this frame in black or tortoise shell. Again I would need to try them on to see how they look but I would get either of them! They even have a little skull emblem on the sides!

KL 01 -  Last but not least are these second frames I saw in the Karl Lagerfeld section! Once again these designer frames come in at £125, they come in a black or a brown/grey gradient frame. I much prefer the black from the two, mainly because black goes with everything so they would be really easy to work with. The frames come with clear accents to add that little flare which I think is super cool!

The New Glasses

I'm at a bit of a loss and really need your help! I have no idea yet as to which frames I prefer from the bunch I saw online and so would I would really love to hear what you guys think! Let me know which ones are your favourite! Or even if there are any brands I should be looking at! Leave your comments below!

THE NEW BAG

Hello everyone! So its been a while since I've bought myself a new bag, I currently have two at home, a brown canvas holdall with a vintage union jack print and a black pleather bag. I tend to use the black one a lot more because its a really good size, not too big and not to small! But, it has definitely come to the end of its life! It looks so tatty but because I still haven't found one to replace it with I end up taking it with me everywhere anyway!. So I've been scrolling through the internet to  have a look at whats hot in the bag scene, It seems like big bags are in because everywhere I have looked seems to have ginormous bags on sale! But I really need a good standard size, spo after a hours of looking I have picked out my top 5!

The New Bag

Khaki Quilted Holdall -  My first pick is this quilted holdall from Burton, When autumn comes around one of my favourite colours is Khaki, so as soon as I saw this I really I wanted .. no, needed it! I love that they have quilted the fabric to add some texture and I'm also loving the brown leather accents!

Zara Zip Bag -  I came across this bag when I first began hunting a few weeks ago, I still need to find it in a local store to try it out for size, but I am so in love with this bag. You can't really see the zip detailing in the picture but it's so different to anything I've seen before. I also love the simple stud detailing on the straps!

Brown Leather Look Holdall - This I think is one of my least favourite bags, I love the simplicity of the bag and the rust gold hardware but compared to the others ... it's a bit boring? And a little business man-y? If that makes any sense at all ... Sorry Topman!

Black Small Holdall - This little number from River Island is the perfect size but it's a little wide! So as lovely as it is I don't think I'll end up buying it for every day use, but I do think it would make an amazing overnight bag. #SmallButMighty

Peavie -  Last but most definitely not least is this woven front panel holdall from Dune! I saw this one at the St. Pancras branch in London. When we walked in I set eyes on a black bag I liked but this one is just beautiful and if I'm honest probably my fave from all five bags ... apart from the Zara Zip Bag! It's a really good size, I love the colour and the gold hardware, the woven panel stops the bag from being too plain and also adds a touch of texture and finally I also really love the shape ... can you tell I really like this bag?

Do you guys have this much trouble finding a bag? #PleaseSayYes! Let me know which one is your favourite, I'd love to know which one you guys would go for!

THE PORTFOLIO - THE VINTAGE REFLECTION EDITION

So I am back again today with another edition of 'The Portfolio' however this is gonna be the last one for a while because .. well ... I need to do some more shoots! I would love to know if you guys have any ideas for me! I can always do with a bit of inspiration! Today's post is a shoot I did with a lovely friend I used to work with, Georgina Hitch-Bramwell, she had seen a few of my shoots and wanted to work together to create a vintage inspired shoot! I was super excited because the theme was something I had not done before, so straight away I started doing some research. When I think of vintage I instantly think of Dita Von Teese, I absolutely love her look and I knew that she would be the inspiration behind the make-up and hair. I created a face chart to plan out the look, in the end I kept it very classic with a bold red lip, neutral eye with a cut-crease and some winged liner! To me when I think of the era I think of matte light skin, George loves a bit of tannage and so it took some convincing to get her to let me pale her skin down ...lol! Once we had the look grounded we started to think about the look in terms of the outfit. George had this beautiful black 50's style dress with an underlay of tulle, which added a lot of body to the dress and created this amazing silhouette. To finish off the outfit we added a red tulle scarf, I thought this really rounded the look and tied in the colours! For the hair I did a lot of research to figure out how to create a victory roll, can I say it was really tricky but in the end it worked so well,  What really helped was that George has red hair and once we curled the rest it looked so shiny and sleek! Hope you guys love!

THE PORTFOLIO - THE ROUGH EDITION

This is the first edition of 'THE PORTFOLIO', here You guys will be able to take a peek into my collection of photography work. Through my time at college I designed and created a number of outfits, each of which was photographed by yours truly! Now, I am not a professional photographer by any means however I am extremely passionate and proud of my work.

This particular edition was a summer project before I began my Foundation course in Art and Design, we were sent a pair of Mens briefs in the post and we were told to customise them into something that showcases our personality, or something that inspires us. I wanted to make a statement with my piece, something extravagant, risqué and out there so I decided I wanted to create a statement piece of lingerie. I started by cuttting into them to change the shape and then I dyed them black *black is always the new black folks!* I then hand-stitched a delicate black lace fabric onto each panel. At this point the old pair of briefs were unrecognisable, they had become an intricate piece of womens' lingerie, however I wasn't done yet! I went into town and bought a few brooches which had some beautiful peacock feathers attached to them. I took the brooch apart and removed the peacock feathers which I then used to create a delicate motif on the back #ShakeYourTailFeather and voila! I had created a super sexy piece of underwear which in my mind would fit in amazingly on the Victoria Secret runway!

THE BURTON HAUL

So over the weekend I was very naughty ... That's right folks I went shopping!! Me and my beautiful mum spent most of Saturday running a few errands and then we ended up at Outfit in Thurmaston, Leicester. It's not normal for me to find quite a few bits when I go shopping, I always end up picking one or two items! So the fact that I had a handful of stuff to take the fitting rooms was a surprise! Now I did put a few things back however I'm sure they will soon be in my wardrobe anyway! Here's what came along with me to the checkout.

So I ended up getting four T-shirts in total! There's a bit of a theme as you can probably tell! All-over prints are really on trend at the moment, they're everywhere! I got three with a floral print and one with an aztec/tribal print. The first is super colourful, its almost hawaiian? It has an ombre colour way, starting off white and finishing in a lovely pale blue! The next is a deep purple leaf print, which I love! It also comes in a really nice rust colour but they didn't have it in my size *sad face* I then picked up a top with a grainy blue fabric that has a gorgeous white floral print. The final top is in a deep blue with a black aztec/tribal print, I saw this top quite a while ago and I fell in love instantly so its really no surprise that it came home with me!

I then got two shirts! One is in a light denim with a geometric pattern, I think this would be really nice to layer over one of the T-shirts I bought or with a crisp plain white tee! I love the fact that the shirt has wooden effect buttons, it makes the shirt feel more casual and I think it would work really well with brown boots to match! The second shirt is in a grainy black fabric with an almost oriental print. It looks amazing with a black tee underneath and some coral shorts! Perfect for the summer!

Let me know if you guys are loving what Burton have out at the moment, because I know I am! A massive thank you to my amazing mum who treated me to all these lovely goodies!

THE PASTEL TREND - WOMENSWEAR

Like clockwork pastels have hit the high street for spring, each year retailers release pastels and neons to bring some colour back into our lives after a cold winter. Pastels are a great way to add a spring back into your step and this year I am spotting a lot of ice-cream pastels! Below I have presented a look that I have put together to represent this trend.

THE PASTEL TREND - WOMENSWEAR

THE PASTEL TREND - WOMENSWEAR by primal-m

Whenever styling an outfit I always use a particular item to use as the foundation and in this case I used the statement necklace that I spotted in River Island. This was the perfect base as it had the right ice-cream tones that I was looking for, using the necklace as a guide I began searching for some jeans and a top. I found some jeans from Topshop that were an amazing pastel bubblegum pink, it is a very similar hue to the rope used on the necklace! Because the bottoms are a pink tone I knew I wanted to the top to be a blue and I ended up seeing this beautiful chiffon top in Topshop, now the top was in mint but I actually preferred this colour because it made the blue in the necklace pop! To finish the outfit off I thought I would incorporate another popular spring trend, neons. I love using neons to add some depth to an outfit but I think it has to be done in a simple yet effective way and so I thought to use an acid yellow pointed court shoe from Aldo and a lime shopper bag from Miss Selfridge! Now I know sometimes this amount of colour can seem a little frightening and so I made sure that each piece featured can be used individually to add a small touch of the trend!

THE BIRTHDAY OUTFIT

Birthday Outfit Idea 1

The Birthday Outfit by primal-m

It's that time of year again! That's right folks its my birthday! *yay* To celebrate, me and a few friends are going to hit the town! Now my Birthday isn't for another week but these things need to be planned in advance! Above I have selected a few bits that I shall hopefully be wearing that night! The shirt I want is from Topman, It was featured in an earlier post "The Printed Shirt" and out of all the ones I chose this Burgundy Aztec Print was the one I fell in love with! Now normally when I plan an outfit I try to have a statement piece and in this outfit it is most definitely the shirt!! And so I have tried to keep the accessories quite minimal, the key word being tried! I love accessories! I've chosen a simple black band ring and a thin gold necklace, and then there's the bee brooch! Now this is a real quirky piece ... and that is exactly why I have to have it! I'm going to wear it in between the collar where the top button sits, now in my head this looks really good but I honestly have no idea what it will look like until I order it! I've seen quite a few people working 'The Chelsea Boot' and I love how it finishes off an outfit, this pair is from River Island and at £35 I think its a real bargain! Finally, I always need a good scent on a special evening and ever since I sampled 'Eros by Versace' I knew I had to add it to my collection! Its quite a sweet scent but also quite fresh ... I'm really no good at describing smells, but it smells good!!

THE COLOURED CHINO

Jacamo Chino Wishlist

Jacamo Chino Wishlist by primal-m on Polyvore

A few years ago 'The Coloured Chino' was unleashed onto the high street and it became an overnight sensation, no longer did men have to strut around in basic coloured bottoms! I was obsessed with the colour ranges that a lot of shops had released and I knew that I had to have a pair, however I could never find a decent pair in my size! Sad face. So I had to stick with just regular denim, I did get myself a lovely pair of grey jeans that I loved! But that's a different story! So yeah! Anyway, then Jacamo opened a shop in the Highcross. Jacamo is a menswear brand that designs clothes for plus size men, when I popped into their store I was very impressed! I was even more impressed when I found their jeans section and they had coloured chinos! I grabbed myself a pair in a plum/burgundy and a pale blue! The colours were amazing, however the chino was a straight leg and I prefer to have a tailored skinny fit, So! I sat down at my sewing machine and tailored the leg! Et Voila! I had not one! But two perfect pairs of coloured chinos! Jacamo have recently released a new line of the chinos PICTURED ABOVE and they are a tailored skinny fit! I could not help but pick up a pair so I went with the Rust Colour! I'm sure it wont be long before I have all four hanging up in my wardrobe!

THE FLORAL TREND - MENSWEAR

Menswear Floral Trend

Menswear Floral Trend by primal-m on Polyvore

Florals are no longer just for women, with designers such as Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Gucci showcasing bold and tropical floral prints, it was only a matter of time before the high street caught on to the extrovert trend! I am a huge fan of a good ol' print as you can probably tell from my last post, however when I heard that florals were the next big thing even I was a little unsure. I instantly thought of hawaiian shirts and bright colours BUT then I came across River Islands interpretation to the trend and instantly fell in love! They took traditional florals and desaturated the colour, which works amazingly well alongside their colour pallete consisting of coppers, greys, creams and blue hues. I can't wait to get hold of some of these amazing pieces, especially the chukka boots and the copper toned tee! Let me know what you guys think of the trend and if you have any faves!

THE PRINTED SHIRT

The Printed Shirt

The Printed Shirt by primal-m on Polyvore

A few years ago a shirt would scare me, to be honest the only shirt I ever owned when I was younger was the standard white shirt for school! In my head a shirt was not a good look for me! I have a 'fuller figure' shall we say and so I would try and cover up with cardigans because they were a safer option. However! everything changed when I went shopping with one of my bestest friends! Yes, I used the word bestest! She introduced me to the Denim Shirt, I had always wanted one but I never had the confidence to try one on just in case it looked really bad! She helped me style it and I wore it unbuttoned with a striped tee and it looked fantastic! We even got a jersey snood to go with it! Basically that day was a hit in my fashion diary! And since then my shirt collection has grown! After that 'wild' purchase I then branched out and bought a printed shirt, I wore it with  the top button done up, a plain white tee underneath and a statement chain. I absolutely loved how this looked, and it has now become my go-to look for a night out! Above are a few shirts that have caught my eye recently!
